From Madness to Calm Without Sitting Meditation – Discover Tog Chöd

From a Buddhist perspective, madness is linked to our habitual psychological tendencies—attachment, irritation, anger, rejection, desire, expectation, clinging.

In short: we are all mad.

The Practice of Tog Chöd: Meditation in Action

Tog Chöd is a meditation with two very specific orientations unique to this practice:

  • Cutting off the head — This is the literal translation of Tog Chöd in Tibetan. By “head,” we mean our thoughts. Thoughts are a powerful source of energy that not only exhaust us and weaken our immune system, but also prevent us from consciously directing our lives. Our decisions are taken in the storm of restless ideas and constant mental chatter, which keeps us from moving forward. This is madness—the madness of living 100% of our time caught in the turmoil of the mind. Going beyond this madness is a step toward true freedom.

  • Meditation for those who cannot sit still — To be frank, some people find sitting meditation unbearable. Sitting down to observe the breath, to feel the body, or to watch the mind is boring, even agonizing. In the 21st century, this is increasingly common. We are overstimulated from morning to night, and so we need movement to establish inner calm. Tog Chöd offers exactly that: meditation in action.

Tog Chöd is therefore a very dynamic practice that allows us to:

  • Strengthen the physical body and improve health through deep movements rooted in Tibetan practices, working every muscle with both flexibility and strength.

  • Build endurance by developing cardiovascular capacity.

  • Stimulate memory by learning and remembering sequences of movements.

  • Develop self-confidence and self-esteem.

  • Cultivate relaxation and inner calm, eliminating the stress generated by restless and chaotic minds where thoughts collide faster than light, leaving no space for self-awareness.

  • Enhance decision-making power through presence, focus, and concentration in the moment.
