Full Moon Day: A Powerful Time for Spiritual Practice

Publié le 14 novembre 2016 à 17:45

Today, November 14, 2016, is an auspicious and beneficial day for practice, for several reasons: our channels are more open, therefore our practices are more effective. In my eyes, this is the most important aspect, because this day allows us to strengthen our transformation processes—provided, of course, that we apply ethics, positive thinking, and a meditative practice combined with breathwork to stimulate our channels.

So let us take a closer look at these different positive aspects of the Full Moon, and stop saying: “Oh, it’s the Full Moon, my head is upside down, etc.” Well yes, if you do not control your mind, then the amplifying effect of the Full Moon will act on an agitated mind rather than on a calm mind!

🟢 First of all, today is a Full Moon day.
During the Full Moon, any spiritual practice—meditation, yoga, breathwork—will have greater impact because on this day our channels are more open, allowing the subtle breath to go deeper into the secondary channels. The positive energy that we bring into our channels through practice will be preserved when the channels close again, allowing it to remain until the next Full Moon.
It is therefore highly beneficial to practice during Full Moon days, and this one is even more auspicious since the Moon is at its closest point to Earth today, which increases its influence. Indeed, the Moon follows an elliptical orbit around our planet, and it is only every 70 years that it passes this close to Earth.

🔵 Practice is also beneficial today because it marks the 15th day of the lunar month, which corresponds to the anniversary of Buddha Amitabha.
In Vajrayana Buddhism, Buddha Amitabha is one of the Five Wisdom Buddhas, each representing a component of the mind of wisdom. Amitabha represents loving-kindness and compassion.
It is therefore essential on this day to practice meditation, recite sutras, and engage in other spiritual practices, as it is said that all effects of our actions on this day are multiplied by 100,000.

🟠 Moreover, the 15th day of the 9th lunar month is known for its unmatched Miracles.
It was on this day that Buddha Shakyamuni decided to descend from the Tushita heavens, where he had stayed for three months to give teachings to beings in that state of perception. In Buddhism, heavens are to be understood as spiritual states, or vibrational states of being.
And it was seven days later, on the 22nd day of the 9th lunar month, that Buddha Shakyamuni actually descended from Tushita to return and teach his disciples in our current state of perception. On this 22nd day, it is said that all merits are multiplied 100 million times. It will therefore also be a very important day for practice.

🔴 The 15th day of the lunar month is also Kalachakra Day.
It was indeed on a Full Moon day that the Buddha gave his teaching of the Kalachakra. Therefore, all Full Moon days are considered especially beneficial for those who practice this tantra.
It is also on this auspicious day that practitioners take the Eight Mahayana Precepts for 24 hours, which consist of a set of vows to be observed from sunrise on the day of commitment until sunrise the next day.
